One of our CAM members created the front cover of the March Bulletin.  Christine Mader of Alexandria, KY, went to Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she photographed an unusual staircase in the Palacio Barolo—one that symbolizes the path up from hell through purgatory.  It went well with the issue’s theme on the seven deadly sins.

Of course, you do not have to submit items to the Bulletin to get them published.  The Mencinnatian will always consider member contributions, both verbal and graphic.  We can’t guarantee that any given submission will get printed—as editor, Andy Freede must decide how to use the limited space that is available—but member submissions, especially those on his theme of the month will be positively received.  Similarly, our website welcomes submissions that members might like to post, especially for our “members only” section.  (Misty Richmond, our webmaster, has fewer issues with capacity than Andy does in the printed newsletter, but she still has to consider the appropriateness of all submissions; generally, I think her bias would be to post member submissions.)  So if you have something creative you’d like to share with other CAM members, in exchange for a little local glory (sorry, we don’t pay cash!), consider sending it to Andy or Misty (see the inside back cover of the Mencinnatian for contact information).

CBS finally got around to airing the piece Leslie Stahl prepared on last summer’s Annual Gathering in Denver.  Personally, I think it’s great publicity, and should generate membership inquiries and new people taking our qualifying test.  The piece, prepared for Sixty Minutes, but airing instead on Sunday Morning, did a nice job of highlighting what happens at an AG.  It’s not perfect—CBS does not make the piece to our specifications—but I do think it was good.  I noticed two CAM members in the piece—Katie Weihl was shown twice at registration, and Barry Austern was shown hugging Alan Baltis of Cleveland, during Alan’s unsuccessful attempt to break a world hugging record.  Perhaps you’ll be the next one shown on a news crew’s view to an AG?—The only way that can happen is if you plan now to attend the 2009 AG in Pittsburgh, coming up in early July.

Speaking of people taking our qualifying test, Proctor Coordinator Rebecca Cornett and her team of proctors do schedule regular testing sessions; Rebecca will gladly send information to your friends you think might like to test.  This month, we’ll be giving a test on a Sunday afternoon, rather than our usual Saturday morning time slot—the test will commence on Sunday April 26 at the Drawbridge Inn in Ft. Mitchell, so if you know anyone for whom Saturday mornings have been a barrier to testing—suggest they show up and take the test.  Mensa Mind Games ®, a national event, will be here that weekend; we’re hoping for some good press coverage, and have scheduled the testing session to take advantage if we get it.  (Registration for Mind Games ® closes on April 3; if you want to participate, this is your last chance to sign up.)

Are you looking for a way to celebrate spring?  Southeast Michigan Mensa hosts one of the largest regional gatherings in our region, and it is coming up the first weekend in May—and only about a four hour drive from Cincinnati.  Of course, we have many local activities, and we would love to see you at any of them, too.
