September 2007

Is it really September already?  It's time for those of you who are students or teachers to be heading back to school.  It's time to make way for the big yellow school buses on the roads.  It's time to watch out for the college students trying to make it to class on time.  The peaceful summer days are over.

I, for one, will not miss the heat of the summer.  We came really close to breaking the record for the number of consecutive days above 90 degrees.  Trust me; it was the heat and the humidity!  The past few weeks have been times to think cool thoughts, drink cool liquids without caffeine, and stay in the air conditioning as much as possible.

What did we ever do before air conditioning?  I have memories of growing up in Alabama in the days before air conditioning.  We kids were always outside and active - nothing like a hill and a bike to cool you down.  Inside the house, we had fans everywhere.  We went to sleep with our heads by an open window getting the breeze from the window and the breeze from a fan.  Then, my father had central air installed.  After that we thought twice about going outside; we'd just sit down with a good book.

Our Loss - Germany's Gain

As many of you know, Tim Link and Stephanie Northeim were married recently.  They will soon be leaving us to work in Germany for a while.  Thus, Tim has resigned from ExComm and Dave MacGregor was selected by ExComm to fill the vacancy for the remainder of this term.  Thanks, Tim and Steph for all you have done for Cincinnati Area Mensa.  You will both be missed more than we can say.  Thanks, Dave for agreeing to help ExComm out in this moment of need, in addition to the CAM roles you are already covering.

CAM Executive Committee Election

The slate of candidates for the 2008 CAM ExComm election will be composed of those Cincinnati Area Mensa members who have submitted a valid petition by Sept. 1, 2007 to Barry Austern.

If you are reading this on or before Sept 1, you can still submit your petition with your signature plus signatures of 4 active members of Cincinnati Area Mensa.

The ballot will be in the October Mencinnatian.  Don't forget to vote and be sure to follow the voting instructions carefully!
