CAM Y'all
By
March 2007
It's March in Cincinnati Area Mensa. As a CAM member, the first thing you need to do in March is to renew your Mensa membership unless you are one of those far sighted creatures who have a life membership or have renewed for multiple years. American Mensa will have already sent you renewal information if your membership expires this year. You can check the label on this Mencinnatian to confirm whether you need to renew. The middle of the top row will have the year that your membership expires. Don't forget! We like having you around.
If you are one of the CAM members that rarely (or never) makes it to an event, please give us a chance to meet you. Take a look at the March calendar and pick an event that appeals to you. If none of those events suit your fancy, plan one that does, schedule it for April or a subsequent month, write up the details and send it to Dave MacGregor, our calendar editor, at CAMcalendar@gmail.com.
Esther Charlton, our Speaker Seeker, has something new for us at the March monthly gathering; we will roast her husband, Bob Charlton. Bob will celebrate his 70th birthday the day after the March gathering and Bob has been a member of CAM for 40 years as of this January. Bob has been the host of Tuesday and Thursday Spirited Discussions for longer than I know about. He was Loc Sec of CAM for something like 10 years. So gather your Bob stories, I'm sure there are plenty, and be prepared to share them at the gathering. I'd appreciate a heads up from those who have something to share at the gathering.
In February, one of the CAM faithful left us for the Dominican Republic to serve in the Peace Corp. John Cunningham served as our Membership officer and the Entertainment SIG coordinator, but that does not begin to describe what he meant to us. He set up a Culture Quest team. He promoted connections with other groups that were hosting montly activities such as the Premier Pianos free concerts, the Science Fiction / Fantasy book group. He continued the monthly Ethnic Dining and he started the Mensa Meanderers Monthly Hikes. He sent out weekly reminders of the available activities. If he had a spare minute, he set up a hike, or a bike ride, or something. I got tired just reading about all his activities.
I know of no one person who could replace John Cunningham and handle everything that he did - so we are splitting it up. Jeannette Ramirez will take over as Membership (Welcoming and Recruiting) officer. Tim Back is taking over the Mensa Meanderers. Misty Richmond is going to send out the monthly reminders. I believe Thea Teich, Debbie Brown, and Rick Magnus are going to handle the Ethnic dining duties. Debbie Brown is the coordinator of the Entertainment SIG Yahoo group. Susan Kight is going to pass along the Premier Pianos concert information as each season is announced. The Science Fiction / Fantasy book group posts their information online.
Correction: In the February article, I referred to the Mensa Retirement Village at the 2006 RG as the brain child of Mary Lee Kemper. Actually Dave MacGregor, our calendar editor and RG Snackmeister, first suggested the concept of a Mensa Retirement Village. Thanks to Mary Lee for the correction and my apologies to Dave for the omission.
