Summertime in Cincinnati Area Mensa and do we have summertime activities!
Potluck Picnic
There was some discussion last winter about having a Family Reunion type picnic this summer. Laura Radetic started the move from concept to reality in an email in March. Several CAM members expressed interest and ExComm set the picnic date for June 9th.
Unfortunately, Laura had a conflict with the June 9th date so Misty Richmond agreed to take over coordination of the picnic. Barry Austern reserved a shelter at the Blue Ash Recreation Center. Last I heard, croquet, cornhole, Frisbee, and more were planned. If you have the equipment for those activities or any similar picnic type activities, please bring them. There will be more picnic information elsewhere in this issue. Come on out and get the summer off to a good start!
Pool Party
Going back to about 1998, Verale Phillips has hosted a pool party and backyard grill for CAM. So I think we will be coming up on the 10th anniversary next year. Please correct me if I am wrong, Verale. This year the pool party will held on July 14th. Verale lives in Devoe Park in Covington, KY. He generally asks that you bring your own meat to grill and a dish to share.
Games / Conversation
August 4th, Peggy Stapleton will host a gathering in Southgate, KY. Plans are still in the works. Watch for developments.
Annual Gathering
The Annual Gathering is the ultimate Mensa event. This year, Mensans from all over the country and some from other parts of the world, will converge on Birmingham, AL on July 4-8. Attendance at an AG generally runs around 1500. Generally the biggest problem at an RG is deciding which of 3 or 4 simultaneous events you will attend or whether you will just hang around hospitality or one of the conversation rooms and meet some interesting people. If you have never attended an AG, this is a good time to give it a try. The Birmingham folks are excellent hosts - firm believers in Southern Hospitality. Birmingham is an easy drive or, if you prefer, airline prices are pretty reasonable from Louisville to Birmingham. See the website for all the details.
