Hmmm...

PROCRASTINATION - yes, that could indeed be my middle name.  So, as I sit here digesting my Easter Dinner, I have decided that it is time to put pen to paper and get busy.  Ok, I am actually putting fingers to keyboard, but you know what I mean!  So rather than insisting that we find the last 4 missing eggs or scrubbing on that nasty pan in the sink, I am writing to you, my favorite distractions ;-)

I might be tempted at this point to segue by admonishing those of you who have procrastinated on renewing your Mensa membership, but then, there wouldn't be much point in that, would there?  Unless, of course, I wanted to direct my comments to those of you who are reading this about those who have procrastinated, but that would not really serve a purpose.  Ahh, the silly mind games one plays when sleepiness creeps in.

I would like to welcome the new members of CAM - those who attended last night's New Member event as well as those who were unable.  It is always nice to talk to new members and this month was no exception. Thanks again to Don and Bernice Craft for hosting.  Dinner was great and it was fun to play some Hearts with friends, and to teach it to a new person as well.  One aspect of the evening struck me in particular - the need for events for Mensans with young children, or, at the very least, to make provisions for such families at other events.  Don and Bernice did a great job of this last night and it would really be nice to have that become a routine. My children are older, which removes me from the group with babysitting needs but puts me smack in the middle of the group with the ability to potentially provide babysitters for CAM events (ah, yet another good use for teenage girls).  At any rate, if you are interested in such events, please contact me.  I know that there are at least 2 families who would be interested, just from last night's MG alone. Please, don't procrastinate on this one!

Now, to really change the subject, I would like to briefly mention the leadership of American Mensa.  As you are probably aware, The American Mensa Committee is comprised of RVCs from each of Mensa's regions (along with some other folks).  We are members of Region 3 - a region known for its RGs and its Hospitality.  Unfortunately, we are in danger of becoming known as the Region that cannot keep an RVC.  Elsewhere in this publication you will find the column of our soon-to-be-former RVC, Linda Hathaway, who was very recently appointed to replace our former RVC, Alan Baltis.  I find all of this most unfortunate (although I understand the reasons behind the decisions of both parties and do not wish to take issue with either one of them here).  But it does concern me for our Region.

Please - take the time to educate yourself on the workings of our national committee.  Visit the national website for a reason other than games (although I must say that the new games page is pretty cool!).  You can find out about the issues facing the AMC, read the agenda items and download the ASIEs.  And then voice your opinions, either online or in print.  It is our American Mensa - let's make sure it is the Mensa that we want.

Final thought - one thing that I am glad that I have not procrastinated on is filing my taxes.  I am aware of more than one friend who is working on their last minute forms (or preparing their extension requests) as I write this.  YUCK!!!
