Hmmm...

February 2006
Greetings fellow Mensans - I hope this February finds you recovered from the holiday season and sufficiently stimulated intellectually to stave off winter boredom (although thus far there is not much boredom to be found as the weather is more like spring than mid Winter). At any rate, I am sure it is on the horizon - I hope we are ready when it finally gets here!
I have to say that as I read through the flurry of last minute emails that have hit my inbox in the last few days I found myself TRULY impressed. The subject of these emails? CAM social events! There are so many events planned for February it will really be impossible for anyone to attend all of them and isn't that a wonderful situation to find yourself in - too many activities and not enough time? Among them are breakfast clubs, lunch clubs, trivia nights and non-political groups (along with non-smoking events). Many thanks to ALL of the people who have put so much time and energy into planning all of this. I wish I could make even half of them. But I will get to one of the Indian buffets this month - I have tried for each of the last two without success. I can taste the curry even now. Someone save me a spot at the first one in February, OK?
I would like to appeal to one group that I think is under represented in the list of events - teen Mensans. By this I mean not only teens who are themselves members of Mensa, but the teens of adult members as well. I would love to see some teen activities planned for March. I would also like to see the Teen Culture Quest team that Rob McDonough is trying to put together materialize. Only the Team Captain need be a member of Mensa. If you are teen (or know one who might be interested in a cultural trivia event - any other kind of event!), please contact Rob. His information is inside the back cover. Culture Quest is being held on Sunday, April 30 this year.
There are a couple of business items that are taken care of at the January Ex Comm meetings each year. One is that appointment of CAM officers. Yes, I appealed to you last month but I will mention it again. There are one or two opportunities available if you want to become more involved. Just let one of us know - I promise that we do not bite!
The second item that is discussed at each January Ex Comm meeting is funding for the Scholarship Fund. I have WONDERFUL news on this front. Thanks to the financial success of the RG as well as the generous donations of two anonymous donors, the CAM scholarship fund is financially prepared for 2006 as well as 2007. This is quite an accomplishment and is due to the hard work of MANY people as well as our donors. I would like to thank these donors as well as offer my most sincere thanks to all of the members of the RG Committee, the volunteers who worked so hard at the RG and to the attendees. The Scholarship Fund represents the best of Mensa - the support for higher education, giving back to the community with an eye on improving the future. It doesn't get much better than that. Thank you for seeing to it that it will continue.
OK, enough :-) I think I will go off to have visions of Tandoori Chicken with rice and nan. Mmmmmm. Have a wonderful Valentine's Day and see you next month!
