Hmmm...

By

December 2006

Wow - it is hard to believe that this is my last Loc Sec column!  It has been three years now that I have had the pleasure of writing to you each month (OK, maybe it wasn't *always* a pleasure - at least, not when I couldn't figure out what to talk about!).  But I have to say that it will be an adjustment and I will miss it, even if I have complained on occasion ;-).  Next month you will be reading the first column from our new Loc Sec, who has yet to be elected.  The Ex Comm meeting is scheduled for December 17 and all members of CAM are welcome.  If you would like to be there for the election of the new Loc Sec and seating of the new Ex Comm, please do come.

You know that I cannot get far into the column without asking you to register for the RG.  It is right around the corner!  It really will be a great event.  Heidi Macneal has done a truly outstanding job of finding speakers and Steve Fletcher has a great line up of tournaments to entice you.  Of course, there will be ample food all weekend and much more.  I believe that Andy has been thoughtful enough to include a great deal of information about the RG in this Newsletter.  Visit the CAM website to register now!

On a business note, you will again find a copy of the ballot for the By Laws update.  No, this is not a mistake!  The due date is December 15.  Please be sure to return it by then (full information is on the ballot itself).  This update is an important housekeeping chore for us and we need your support to finish the job.  You can find both the current and proposed By Laws on the CAM website so that you can see what has been changed.  You can only vote once, but please do!

And now, I will take a moment of your time to say a few things of a personal nature.  I would like to thank those of you that I have had the pleasure to serve with.  I will make no attempt to list people here as I will surely forget someone.  Suffice to say that the people I have met in this "job" have invariably been interesting and unusual, very often helpful and enjoyable as well.  My heart felt thanks to each and every one of you.  YOU make CAM what it is.

I have tried very hard over the last three years to be as impartial as possible and to provide boundaries without unnecessary limits.  In other words, to uphold the rules without squashing individuals.  I am well aware that there are those of you who feel that I have failed miserably in that endeavor.  I would like to think that the majority of you feel that I did a reasonable job.  And regardless of what any of you think, I know that I have done my best and that I have enjoyed it and THAT is what truly matters.  I have no doubt that I will miss it (and all of you) greatly.

I have also tried to make each RG an enjoyable and profitable event for CAM, both to the benefit of the attendees and the members of our group.  I think CAM has the best RG in the region (OK, I may be just a bit biased).  We certainly have the best programs, tournaments and hospitality!  And so, I will end this column with a final plea for your attendance there.  Seems fitting, don't you think?
