Hmmm...

I hope that all of you are having a great summer! I think it has been very nice so far - busy but not overwhelming. Of course, the hottest days are yet to come and I may change my tune before the end of August. But I am still high from my win (ok, my tie) in the Hearts Tournament at the Columbus RG. I am not referring to the social event known as Double Deck Cancellation Go Fish Hearts but the REAL game. It was MUCH fun!
Onto CAM business. First on my agenda is a plea for volunteers - here is your chance to contribute and make CAM what *you* want it to be! The call for petitions is in this edition of the Mencinnatian and I am very hopeful of this being a great election year with lots of names on the ballot. Please read the instructions if you are interested in serving on Ex Comm - the commitment is for one meeting a month and they are usually about an hour in length. If you are undecided, I encourage you to talk to a few (or all) of the current members to get a better idea of what is involved. It is a lot more fun than you might think!
An example of a recent project that Ex Comm is still working on is an update of our By Laws. National sets the guidelines (or Minimum Standards) for what our By Laws must contain - we must then make changes to comply with the standards. The changes are submitted to a committee at National for review and approval (which is where they are now) and are then submitted to the membership for approval. Not glamorous work, but important for CAM's future - and we could use people like YOU!
While on the topic of volunteering, we have a new opening available - Gifted Children Coordinator. Please contact myself or another member of Ex Comm if you are interested. The job entails being listed as a contact for people with questions and perhaps planning children's activities. You are required to have a background check from National but there is not a lot of month to month work involved. Care to help out with this?
On another note, I would like to thank Tom Vonderahe for another great job with the Scholarships this year. Tom has done this year after year for CAM and he always does a most excellent job. Because of the timing of the newsletter, I have not yet attended the luncheon but I am looking forward to it. Thanks again, Tom!
Another sincere thanks goes to Andy Freede. I contacted Andy last month about doing a membership directory - and look what you have in your hands today! Wow Andy, that was fast! Thank you for the great job that you do every month -
I hope that all of you have a safe and enjoyable summer - even as we are looking forward to fall events. On a regional note, there will be another Outdoor Gathering in Indiana this year (I heard about this in Columbus). It is a great party and is being held the weekend of September 15/17 this year. Perhaps you will join us for some roasted marshmallows and a roll in the leaves with the kids. And to think that this is in addition to the other camping trips planned by local members here in Cincinnati!
Have fun and stay cool --
