2010 Ex Comm Candidate
Rick Magnus

Candidate Statement:
I joined Mensa during my last semester of law school in 1982, and have now been a member the majority of my life—and Mensa is a very important part of my life. I was first elected to Cincinnati Area Mensa's Executive Committee ("Excomm") in 1984, and I have now been on Excomm for much of the last quarter century. I have served as your Local Secretary (as close to a president as CAM has) in the 80s, the 90s, and now once again in the 00s. I was also Regional Vice Chairman for this region from 2001-03.
Excomm is responsible for making sure that the group functions smoothly, getting done that which needs to get done so that we all can take advantage of our Mensa membership here in Greater Cincinnati. Activities, newsletters, elists, RGs, websites, and scholarships don't just happen—they take co-ordination and planning (along with hard work by the people who actually agree to do those chores). Excomm gets the job done so most of the membership doesn't have to worry about how things get done. I've been involved long enough that I know how to get things done right, and I truly enjoy doing much of the behind-the-scenes co-ordination. The current Excomm has been a pleasure to work with—seven diverse Mensans working together, sometimes agreeing to disagree, and always civil. I'd like to continue contributing to this group—our group—and I'd appreciate one of your seven votes so that I can continue to do so.
