2010 Ex Comm Candidate

Candidate Statement:
Why am I running for Ex Comm? I suppose the short answer is that I miss it. I have served on Ex Comm in the past, with a couple of years as Loc Sec and more years than I care to enumerate as either RG Chair or RG Hospitality Chair. But I have been on hiatus for a couple of years now and I miss the PEOPLE. My school and work schedules really prevent me from being able to attend many of the social activities and being on Ex Comm again would give me a monthly dose of Mensa. So that is my very personal (and selfish) reason for running.
But I also have other reasons. I think that being on Ex Comm would have some benefits to the Webmaster and Yahoo elist roles that I already fill. I also like to think that I have something meaningful to contribute to Cincinnati Area Mensa! But I suppose one of the bigger reasons I am running is in reaction to the power struggles and ugliness I see happening at the National level in American Mensa. I happen to think that Mensa is a great organization, that it exists to meet the needs of the members and that the members should have the power to make of it what they will. In other words, if I want my local chapter of Mensa to be a positive place that values growth and exploration, to provide social outlets for its members, to support educational endeavors and the scholarship fund, to support gifted children and to interface with other members of American Mensa and Mensa International, well, I ought to put some of MY energy into making that happen. And frankly, I plan to do just that, whether I am elected to Ex Comm or not. But I do hope that you will vote for me :-)
